Description:

Recent work has explored the possibility of metacognition in animals. In computerized perceptual and memory tasks, joystick-trained rhesus monkeys are provided with an "uncertain response" that allows them to bail out of trials of their choosing. The goal is to find out whether some animals, like humans, know when they know, and know when they do not know or are uncertain.
