Clinical Program: FAQs

  1. What are your admission requirements?

In general, applicants without the following minimum credentials are unlikely to compete successfully for admission: both the Verbal and Quantitative GRE Scores should be above the 50th percentile and an undergraduate GPA of at least 3.20.

The Psychology GRE subject test is required from all applicants to the Clinical Psychology Program.

Click here for more graduate admission information.

  2. What are the mean undergraduate GPA and GRE scores of your clinical psychology graduate students?

During the past five years successful applicants had a mean GPA of 3.61, and a mean combined GRE of 1133. (For more detailed applicant information, click here.)

  3. What is your application and interview process?

Following an initial screening, each candidate's application is independently evaluated and quantitatively rated by at least one member of the clinical faculty. Highly ranked candidates will be contacted for an initial interview.

The admissions committee will next invite a pool of finalists to participate in an interview day in March. Attendance at the interview day is not mandatory and finalists may instead choose to participate in an additional phone interview. Participation in either format is considered equivalent, and no preference will be shown to finalists based on which format they choose.

  4. How many students do you admit each year?

The Clinical Program typically admits 5-7 new students from an applicant pool of about 150 (an acceptance rate of 4%). The attrition rate for students admitted to the program is approximately 8.9%. Present guidelines are to admit approximately one graduate student for each full-time clinical faculty member.

  5. Where can I find application materials?

    Right Here!!

  6. When are my application materials due?

    January 1

  7. Do I have my official transcripts and letters of recommendation sent directly to the Psychology Department?

  8. The best way to ensure that your application is complete is to mail all of the required pieces in one envelope. When requesting your official transcripts and three letters of recommendation, ask that they be sent to you and do not open them when they arrive in the mail. If they have been opened they are not official copies. If you have an unofficial copy of your GRE test scores please send a photocopy of them; the official copy will come directly to us from ETS.
