Graduate students typically share research space with their faculty mentor(s). Multi-purpose laboratories are equipped with computers and interview facilities.
Labs with one-way mirrors and video and audiotaping equipment are available.
Three Developmental Psychology research rooms are located in Corbin Hall, providing space for behavioral observations, coding and data processing.
In the Skaggs Building, the Parent-Infant Research Laboratory is set up primarily for coding and analyzing videotaped observations using PC and MAC computers that interface with a VCR.
Software allows acoustical analyses of parent and infant vocalizations, examinations of temporal and rhythmic patterns of movement, and observations of such variables as tactile contact, hand preferences (laterality),
infant-directed sign language, and reciprocity in early interactions. Portable videotaping and audiotaping equipment is also available for off-site observations. Also in the Skaggs Building, the Gerontology Research Lab provides space and computer resources for data management, coding, transcription, data entry, and analysis.
