Training at the doctoral level in School Psychology at the University of Montana includes a semester hour course of study leading to a Ph.D. in Psychology, speciality School Psychology, attained as follows:
- Masters (MA) in School Psychology by completing 36 credits of coursework and a Masters Thesis, completed at the end of two years of full time study.
- Doctoral Ph.D. degree by completing 73* additional credits of coursework during the first four years of full time study and 12 credits of internship during the fifth year of training.

Successful completion of the Ph.D. School Psychology training program results in:
- Masters (MA) degree in School Psychology
- Eligibility for full licensure in the State of Montana as a Class 6 School Psychologist
- National Credential in School Psychology (NCSP), a license that is currently recognized in 39 states.
- Ph.D. in Psychology, specialty School Psychology
